THE FAIREY FILM UNIT ...

My pally sent me this link to the Fairey Rotodyne Helicopter ... at the beginning of the movie, there is this title card with I took a screen shot of... too good to pass up. Love this one. I've tried searching for other Royal Navy footage that has this style of title card but nothing has come up. //

The Fairey Rotodyne was a 1950s British compound gyroplane designed and built by Fairey Aviation and intended for commercial and military applications.[1] A development of the earlier Gyrodynewhich had established a world helicopter speed record, the Rotodyne featured a tip-jet-powered rotor that burned a mixture of fuel and compressed air bled from two wing-mounted Napier Elandturboprops. The rotor was driven for vertical takeoffs, landings and hovering, as well as low-speed translational flight, and autorotated during cruise flight with all engine power applied to two propellers. Although promising in concept and entirely successful in trials, the Rotodyne program was eventually cancelled when a combination of politics and the lack of commercial orders doomed the project. //
